Liverpool are set to land their first signing of the summer in a surprise move for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, who has reportedly agreed a six-year contract.
In a shock update late on Wednesday night it was revealed that Liverpool are set to trigger a €40 million (£34.6m) release clause in Munoz’s contract.
The 22-year-old left winger, who joined Osasuna from Real Madrid last summer, is now expected to become the first official signing of the summer on a six-year contract.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano broke the news on X with the Times‘ Paul Joyce corroborating claims Munoz will join Liverpool.
Munoz had been slated to join Newcastle but Liverpool have stolen ahead of their Premier League rivals to secure a deal.

Owing to the release clause there is no need for negotiations with Osasuna and therefore the process is set to be more straightforward than with other, more high-profile targets this summer.
Having only turned 22 last week, Munoz scored seven goals and laid on five assists in 36 games last season.
He also scored on his debut for Spain in the March international break and is part of their squad for the World Cup, going unused in Monday’s 0-0 draw with Cape Verde.
It remains to be seen if the deal will go through while Spain are involved in the tournament or whether all parties will agree to delay proceedings until Munoz is free from duty.
But as it stands, in a shock twist, the Barcelona-born forward will be Liverpool’s first addition since appointing Spanish head coach Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool have already lined up the signing of centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, with the 20-year-old set to complete his move this summer after a deal was announced in January.
The emphasis has been on strengthen the forward line following Mohamed Salah‘s departure and Hugo Ekitike‘s long-term injury.
Munoz’s signing goes a length towards doing so, with the Spaniard predominantly a left winger but capable of filling in across the attack, including as a centre-forward.
