Cowboys WR George Pickens Shuts Down Holdout Talk Ahead of Training Camp

George Pickens had every reason to turn theDallas Cowboys minicamp into a contract standoff. However, he showed up with a different message. After weeks of speculation surrounding his absence from voluntary workouts, the Cowboys’ star receiver made it clear that business won’t get in the way of football.

For a franchise chasing its first Super Bowl since 1995, that is exactly what Brian Schottenheimer andDak Prescott wanted to hear.

While talking to the media as part of the mandatory minicamp held on June 16, Pickens said he would attend training camp even though the franchise failed to offer him the long-term contract he sought.

According to the 25-year-old receiver, his choice to skip voluntary OTAs was guided by his agent’s advice and not due to any grievances against the team.

“What’s important to me is winning. Like I said from the beginning, I always wanna bring a Super Bowl to a group of guys that never had that feeling. That’s really the most important part to me.”

Cowboys WR George Pickens said he’s not disappointed that he did not get a long-term deal. He doesn’t plan on holding out. He will be at training camp.

The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Pickens earlier this offseason after deciding not to negotiate a multiyear extension before the 2026 season. He signed the fully guaranteed one-year tender worth $27.3M and reported to mandatory minicamp to avoid fines.

Pickens insisted he is not disappointed by the lack of a long-term deal and plans to let his representatives handle the business side while he focuses on football.

His connection with Prescott played a major role in that decision. The two have continued throwing together away from team facilities throughout the off-season, and Pickens did admit that the relationship he’s built in the locker room made the idea of skipping camp easy to dismiss.

Pickens was not allowed to participate in team drills at the minicamp out of concern for safety, but Schottenheimer anticipates Pickens to be back in full swing at the start of training camp in late July.

With career-best stats of 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025, Pickens will start the year among the league’s most dynamic players.

While negotiations can come later, for now, Pickens just wants to help bring an end to the Cowboys’ 30-year championship drought.
