As the start of training camps ahead of the 2026 NFL season is fast approaching, the free-agent market is continually shrinking. The only commodities still out there for teams to seriously consider are veteran free agents who are looking for the right spot to either finish their career or compete for a Super Bowl... or both.
Looking at the best remaining free agents available, there are two players who should garner interest from the Denver Broncos. Von Miller and Bobby Wagner, two players who spent the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders, are still available.
Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated has Wagner as his eighth-best available free agent and feels the Cincinnati Bengals would be his best potential fit, but the Broncos could use a veteran to help bring the inside linebacker position closer to a finished product. With Justin Strnad and Alex Singleton slated to be the starters this coming season, the Broncos should be strongly considering adding more depth.
Adding Wagner, a proven veteran who was last season's Walter Payton Man of the Year, is an idea I have discussed before. He is no longer in his prime, but he can still provide something to finish a career that could end in the Hall of Fame. If nothing else, he could be a security blanket behind Strnad and Singleton and a valuable on-field coach for the young linebackers behind them.
Bringing Miller back into the picture would be a feel-good story for Broncos fans, but it's also one that is beginning to make more and more sense, considering the recent off-field issues surrounding Jonathon Cooper. Even with Cooper, the Broncos should consider Miller as an additional pass-rusher to throw against the opposition. Despite being in the twilight of his career, he still put up nine sacks while seeing limited snaps in Washington.
Miller has expressed a desire to return to the team that drafted him in the first round in 2011 more than once. The fanbase would gladly welcome back the best defensive player in team history and while that's not enough reason to make the deal happen, the fact that he's proven that he can still be productive should be.

The Broncos figure to have one of the best defenses in the league again in 2026, but both of these players, used as situational role players who can make an impact at the right time, could make that defense even better.
