The Dallas Cowboys have made yet another move to improve their roster going into the 2026 season. After missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, Dallas is determined to get back to the post-season and make a deep run. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer is reportedly gaining more traction and confidence as the team’s head coach going into his second season.

Cowboys Acquire Former Texans Defensive Back
Following a season with the Houston Gamblers, the Dallas Cowboys have turned the UFL into their own personal farm system by signing veteran NFL cornerback Ameer Speed.
During the 2023 NFL draft, Speed was selected by the New England Patriots in the 6th round (No. 214 overall). Following stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, and Houston Texans, he will now join his sixth team in four seasons.
“Ameer Speed is the thirdGamblers player to sign an NFL contract this week, making his way to theCowboys,” Pro Football Newsroom’s James Larsen wrote on his official X account on Wednesday. “Speaks volumes to the quality roster Kevin Sumlin & Co. put together in Houston thisUFL season.”
Speed joined the Gamblers halfway through the season and finished with 14 tackles and five pass breakups in five games while starting only once.
This offseason, the Cowboys attempted to revamp their secondary after having the NFL’s worst secondary in 2025. They selected cornerback Devin Moore in the 4th round and safety Caleb Downs in the 1st round. In addition, a free agent contract was signed with Jalen Thompson for three years and $33 million.
