Newcastle United and Arsenal are the favourites to sign Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer, according to reports in the Spanish media.
AS claim that the Magpies and the Gunners are “two teams most interested” in the 27-year-old, who will leave Celta when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Mikel Arteta is believed to be the person who is pushing for the Premier League champions to sign Mingueza.
However, the Spaniard would have stiff competition for his place at the Emirates, with Jurrien Timber the first-choice right-back. That could give Newcastle the chance to swoop in.
Mingueza would be Trippier’s replacement
Kieran Trippier officially left to join Championship side Wolves earlier this month, and additional cover is needed on the right-hand side of defence.
Mingueza is comfortable as a right-back, wingback and even as a centre-half, so in addition to replacing Trippier, he could be deployed in several other positions too.

Newcastle also have to provide cover for Livramento
Tino Livramento suffered yet another injury whilst on international duty with England. He was forced to withdraw from the World Cup squad, with Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah taking his place.
After spending 170 days on the treatment table last season with various problems, including knee, hamstring and thigh strains, the Magpies need to have a suitable alternative who is capable of playing week in, week out at the highest level.
Mingueza seems to be a good fit, considering his experience playing for both club and country, but it remains to be seen if he will choose a move to the North East over London.
