The Athletic: ‘Productive talks’ held — Man United’s PL target now edging closer to summer move

Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest in Sandro Tonali by holding ‘productive talks’ this week, as per The Athletic.

However, Manchester City are now considering entering the fray with a pursuit that would run alongside their efforts to sign Elliot Anderson.

Manchester City are giving genuine consideration to signing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, as well as Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.

Sandro Tonali edges closer to St. James’ Park exit

In the midst of the sides making their moves, Manchester United are also firmly among Tonali’s admirers.

Fabrizio Romano revealed back in March that the Newcastle United star ‘would be open’ to an Old Trafford switch, which INEOS will surely be aware of.

🚨 Manchester United have Sandro Tonali very high on their shortlist for June, as reported. The player would be open to the move.

Yet, it’s Newcastle’s costly demands that are poised to price United out of a deal.

Given they value the 26-year-old in the region of £100 million, it doesn’t exactly bode well for United, who are looking to sign as many as three midfielders this summer.

Mateus Fernandes sits atop United’s shortlist in first week of window

Speculation involving the Red Devils and Tonali has died down in recent weeks, as it looks as though INEOS have turned their attention to Mateus Fernandes instead.

The Portuguese starlet, 21, is priced at around £85m by West Ham, though United would work to lower the fee, presumably by promising some lucrative add-ons to the now-relegated London outfit.

United have already sealed a full £39m agreement for Atalanta’s Ederson, but the finalisation of his transfer has been delayed due to his late World Cup call-up with Brazil.

Fernandes was unfortunate to miss out on a place in Roberto Martinez’s squad, but it does mean that talks can continue between him and the Reds without any interference from the tournament.
