Victor Munoz is set to become Liverpool’s first signing of the summer transfer window, and the new winger’s arrival will not block Rio Ngumoha‘s pathway.
This Is Anfield understands Liverpool are close to finalising the £34.5 million signing of Munoz from Spanish side Osasuna.
The 22-year-old has completed a medical at Spain’s World Cup camp after club staff flew out to Atlanta to ensure the Reds beat Newcastle to a deal.
Man United and Bayer Leverkusen also held interest in the winger, while Barcelona saw him as an alternative to Anthony Gordon and Real Madrid were open to bringing him back.
Munoz is a natural left winger, which could raise concerns over Ngumoha’s game time heading into a first season under Andoni Iraola.

But the Spaniard is viewed as a signing who will not block the 17-year-old’s pathway, with Munoz’s versatility allowing him to cover multiple positions.
He is considered the ideal, multi-functional forward to add to the current squad, capable of playing on both wings as well as up front.
Liverpool will see him as an addition to their existing wide options rather than a direct replacement for any player – including Ngumoha, who was subject of an approach from Bayern Munich.
Ngumoha can expect to enjoy significant game time under Iraola while Munoz offers flexibility as part of the wider attacking unit.
The teenager is set to be among the first to report back to the AXA Training Centre for the start of pre-season next month.

Who is Victor Munoz?
Full Name: Victor Munoz VillanuevaAge: 22 (July 13, 2003)Height: 5’8″ (173cm)Birthplace: Barcelona, Spain
Club: OsasunaPosition: Winger (Left)Foot: RightRelease Clause: €40m (€34.6m)
Munoz, meanwhile, could be late to join his new team-mates depending on Spain’s success at the World Cup – he was an unused substitute in their opening 0-0 draw with Cape Verde due to a fitness concern.
Born in Barcelona and spending time in the youth systems at Sant Gabriel, Barcelona, CF Damm and Real Madrid, he broke through with the latter before earning a €6 million move to Osasuna last summer.
After scoring seven goals and laying on five assists in 36 games last season, his value has rocketed and Liverpool are committed to paying a sizeable fee.
Half of that £34.5 million will be paid back to Real Madrid, who negotiated a 50 percent sell-on clause, while the package will be split into two instalments.
Liverpool are expected to confirm the signing in the near future, while continuing to pursue RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.
