It is the transfer story that has left Newcastle United stunned and Liverpool fans scrambling to find out everything they can about a player who, just weeks ago, was barely on their radar.

Victor Munoz, the 22-year-old Spanish winger, is set to become Andoni Iraola’s first signing as Liverpool head coach after the Reds triggered his £35m release clause at Osasuna.

In what is becoming familiar for Newcastle, the Geordie side were left huffing after Liverpool swooped in at a late stage much like Hugo Ekitike last summer.

The Magpies were genuine admirers of Munoz and had been building towards a deal, only to watch Liverpool swoop in and activate the release clause without hesitation.

Munoz will now sign a six-year deal at Anfield and will join up with his new club following Spain’s World Cup campaign, with Liverpool medical staff already present at the Spain training camp in Atalanta.

But there has been a question doing the rounds on social media this morning. Does Real Madrid have a buyback clause for Victor Munoz?

Luckily, the answer will come as a relief to Liverpool supporters. According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Real Madrid do not hold a buyback clause on Victor Munoz. That means Liverpool own him outright, with no risk of Los Blancos pulling him back to the Bernabeu in the future.
