Real Madrid are willing to let Rodrygo leave this summer - with the Brazilian firmly on Arsenal's radar 12 months ago.

The winger has seen his importance decrease at the Bernabeu and he struggled to make himself a regular under Xabi Alonso. Now, with Jose Mourinho at the helm, Los Blancos would not stand in his way if he wanted to seek pastures new.

Mundo Deportivo reports that, despite being free to leave, the Brazil international wants to remain at the Bernabeu and fight for his place in the team. However his stance could yet alter if he finds that minutes will remain at a premium.

Rodrygo managed to score just three times in 27 outings last term, which is a far cry from the numbers he posted only three years ago, when he scored 19 times. Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jnr remain Real's go to weapons in the final third, and even Moroccan Brahim Diaz enjoyed more opportunities than Rodrygo last term.

Arsenal had a genuine interest in Rodrygo last summer and the fact he could play all along the front three is something that is understood to have attracted Mikel Arteta. He has two years remaining on his deal and previously there were quotes of around £80million - which would likely scupper any potential transfer unless that figure comes down.

Since eyeing Rodrygo the north Londoners have invested in their wide ranks with Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze arriving at the Emirates. Both showed touches of class in their debut seasons and added to the depth that Arsenal already had in that area.

The Gunners are wanting to strengthen their options in the final third, but currently it seems more likely that they go after a central forward. Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez is being heavily linked with a move back to the Premier League following two prolific years in Spain.

Mourinho has wasted no time in shaping his Real squad in what is his second stint back at the Spanish giants. He's already raided English clubs for the likes of Marc Cucurella, who has joined from Chelsea for £51million. Bernardo Silva has just joined on a free after leaving Manchester City.
