He wants move: Man Utd ready to sign 6 ft 4 France international - report

Manchester United are said to be interested in a Serie A midfielder as they look to further bolster their midfield this summer. Michael Carrick has already made a start on adding to the middle of the park, snapping up Ederson from Atalanta on a deal worth more than £40million.

The Red Devils need at least a couple of midfield additions this summer following the loss of Casemiro. The Ederson signing was a good start, but another signing or two is likely as United look to add to their solid campaign of last, which saw them finish third in the Premier League.

Carrick will likely want his side to take a step up, potentially entering the title conversation and enjoying a good run in the Champions League, but Old Trafford chiefs recognise there is going to need to be further investment in the squad this summer.

Thuram emerges as option

Khephren Thuram of Juventus

Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram is now reportedly of interest to United, and there may be a deal to be done. According to reports, Juventus need to raise between £10-11million by the end of the month to be financially compliant after missing out on Champions League qualification.

Juve paid around €20million to sign Thuram, but they are demanding between £35-40million, which is a little reduced from the previous price that was floated. According to Corriere dello Sport's print edition, United are considering meeting that valuation, while Al'Ahli in Saudi Arabia are already agreeing to do so, though the midfielder is said to prefer a European stay.

In fact, it's added that a Premier League move would be his preference, and he is already said to have turned his nose up at Galatasaray this summer.

What Thuram offers United

Khephren Thuram

Thuram would offer energy aplenty in the middle of the park for United. Thuram is a box-to-box midfielder who certainly doesn't shy away from the physical side of the game.

He received praise last year from Maurizio Sarri's renowned assistant, Giovanni Martusciello, who said: "Who do I like? Thuram, I think he’s extraordinary. Overall, they seem like a team that can have its say until the end. Then, to fight for the big goals, at least the ones they’ve always had in Turin, we need more time.”

Thuram is still only 25 years of age, so there is still more to come from the Frenchman. And in terms of a deal, he is free to speak currently due to not making France's World Cup squad.
