Marcus Rashford’s return to the international spotlight continued in impressive fashion as England began their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a statement victory over Croatia.
The Three Lions produced an entertaining 4-2 win in their opening fixture, with several attacking players making an impact during the match.

BBC Sport awarded Rashford a 7/10 rating and highlighted his ability in front of goal, saying, “Introduced as the game was getting stretched and showed elite finishing ability to roll the ball into the bottom corner for England’s fourth.”
TalkSport also gave the England attacker a 7/10 rating after his late impact helped Gareth Southgate’s side close out the match.
Sky Sports similarly rated Rashford at 7/10, praising both his threat and his composure in the decisive moment.
“Close to adding a fourth just moments after coming on with Rogers and Saka, only to be denied by Livakovic, before showing great composure to add his side’s final goal with just five minutes left to play, the forward’s 19th for his country,” Sky Sports wrote.
The Sun was even more impressed with Rashford’s performance, handing him an 8/10 rating after his introduction changed the dynamic of the match.
“What a difference he made when he came on. The ex-Man United star has just come off the back of a top season at Barcelona and he is clearly still in the mood.
“Terrific finish after a superb piece of trickery in the box.”
The Independent also recognised Rashford’s influence, giving him a 7/10 score and describing his contribution simply as, “Impact. A brilliantly taken goal on the counter attack to seal England’s win.”
The reaction continues a positive period for Rashford, who enters the tournament after a strong season at Barcelona, but has now returned to Manchester United.
