'100%' - Fabrizio Romano delivers devastating Liverpool transfer truth as Newcastle United…

Newcastle United transfers: Liverpool have swooped in to strike a deal for a top Newcastle target.

The Reds have hijacked Newcastle’s potential move for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, triggering the winger’s £35million release clause. In addition, Liverpool have quickly reached a full agreement and Munoz has completed a medical while away with Spain at the World Cup.

The Magpies had held positive talks with Osasuna winger Victor Munoz and were confident of agreeing a deal, only for Liverpool to swoop in.

Newcastle had lined Munoz up as a replacement for Anthony Gordon following the England international’s £70million move to Barcelona earlier this month. Munoz looked likely to be Newcastle’s second summer signing after the £18million move for goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims.

The Magpies had been given the transfer green light by Real Madrid, who sold Munoz to Osasuna last summer but retained 50% of his economic rights as well as a buy-back option. The La Liga giants would not stand in Newcastle’s way and trigger the clause.

There were reports from Spain claiming Real Madrid could intert a buy-back on any future transfer of Munoz. But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news of Liverpool hijacking the Munoz deal, has claimed no such buy-back will be in place adding that the winger is ‘100%’ a Liverpool player.

Romano tweeted: “Understand there’s NO buy back clause for Real Madrid in Víctor Muñoz to Liverpool deal. Real have right of first refusal in case of future proposals (and received €20m from Osasuna), but even in that case the player has final say. Muñoz, 100% #LFC player.”

It’s a cruel blow for Newcastle, who had been looking to negotiate a package lower than Munoz’s release clause, a tactic that ultimately left them susceptible to being gazumped.

The Magpies must now go back and look at alternatives to replace Gordon on the left wing.
