TheCleveland Browns don’t need a QB, but they need to choose a QB.
The discussion over who will be their quarterback continues as training camp draws nearer. The return ofDeshaun Watson from his Achilles tear.Shedeur Sandersis coming off an encouraging rookie season, and outside voices keep pushing new names into the conversation. However, inside the building, the message appears much simpler.

Speaking on 92.3 The Fan, analyst Lance Reisland urged general manager Andrew Berry to avoid chasing another developmental quarterback and instead trust head coach Todd Monken’s evaluation of the current room.
“If I’m Andrew Berry, I rely on my coach, especially at that position. I just don’t know that you need another project. Right now, they have guys in that room that you need to get a look at. This is a much better football team than people think. If they can get adequate QB play, they’re going to be in a lot of football games.”

Reisland’s comments come as speculation grows around the Browns potentially adding another young QB, including interest in prospects such as Brendan Sorsby. For now, Monken appears committed to a true competition between Watson and Sanders.
According to ESPN reporter Daniel Oyefusi on June 14, Monken said he has no plans to name a starter before training camp. The Browns split first-team reps throughout minicamp, with Sanders handling the opening day’s 11-on-11 work before Watson rotated back in.
Sanders has repeatedly downplayed the QB1 headlines.
“I’m focused on developing as a player, doing everything, getting as comfortable as I can in the offense and the scheme.” (ViaBR)
With 1,400 yards in seven games in his first season, the second-year QB received Pro Bowl reserve recognition. According to NFL Network insider Cameron Wolfe, Sanders was highly regarded by coaches for improved processing skills and better decision-making in offseason training activities, OTA.
Watson, however, is the most unpredictable factor. The former Pro Bowl quarterback hasn’t played in the NFL since tearing his Achilles tendon in the 2024 season and has a career QBR of 33.1 as a member of the Browns.
The Browns think their squad is ready to compete right now. Their season may ultimately come down to whether Monken can identify the QB best positioned to unlock it.
