The Arizona Cardinals used their third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on a quarterback who’s already made his full commitment to the team clear, and the regular season hasn’t even started. Carson Beck, the quarterback out of the University of Miami, went No. 65 overall, the first pick of round three.
The Cardinals valued Beck for his extensive college experience and see him as a high-floor developmental option behind veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew. Since signing his rookie contract, Beck has stayed committed from day one and made it clear he isn’t taking anything easy.
Carson Beck Committed From Day One
Beck was the first pick of the third round, and the Cardinals leaned heavily on his starting experience in college. A potential future starter mattered here, since Arizona doesn’t currently have a true cornerstone quarterback on the roster.

Across his college career, which started at Georgia before he transferred to Miami, Beck played in 55 games and started 43 of them. He threw for 11,725 yards, 88 touchdowns and 32 interceptions over that span.
Dedication and commitment are rare qualities in a rookie, and Beck appears to already be excelling at both. After signing his rookie deal, he made it known he’s giving more than what’s asked of him from the jump.
“From day one, I didn’t want to ease into anything, to be completely honest,” Beck said at a press conference. “I get in here early in the morning, and obviously we have our stuff that’s required and not necessarily mandatory, but obviously as a rookie, you’re going to be here and you’re going to do it.”
He’s not wasting any opportunity to pick the coaching staff’s brain either. “Just trying to pick their brains and just take every little inch and every little thing to add it to my repertoire and get as good and as comfortable as I can is something that I’ve done from the second I feel like I’ve stepped in the building,” he added.
Beck’s early dedication is giving the Cardinals real hope. Arizona was searching for a quarterback who could eventually become their franchise starter, and so far, his work ethic is backing up the bet.
Why the Cardinals Wanted Carson Beck So Badly
A few factors pushed Arizona toward Beck. The Cardinals have Brissett as their current starter and Minshew behind him, but neither is viewed as a long-term answer. Brissett reportedly sought a reworked contract and finished last season poorly, and the team doesn’t see either veteran as a future cornerstone.
Beck’s nearly 12,000 career passing yards and 43 starts were the difference-makers. That kind of volume and consistency is exactly what made Arizona believe he could grow into a future starter and the cornerstone quarterback they’ve been missing.
Some analysts had Beck pegged as a fourth-round pick, but the Cardinals weren’t willing to risk losing him for one more round, so they grabbed him with the first selection of round three instead.
That decision to jump ahead and lock him up says a lot about how much trust Arizona has in Beck. He seems to value that faith, and based on what he’s shown so far, the Cardinals are more than satisfied with the commitment he’s already putting in.
