“Manchester City have long been heading the chase, and they have reaffirmed their admiration for the player over the last week when they were spoken to.”
“I am told City made it clear during the process that they don’t see Tonali as some sort of alternative to Elliot Anderson – ideally they want both.
“City know that Real Madrid remain hugely keen on Rodri, and there is every chance Nico Gonzalez goes too. And with Bernardo Silva already leaving, that leaves some major gaps in the squad that need filling.”
Rodri is the least likely to leave this summer
While Real are still said to be keen on the former Ballon d’Or winner, it has been claimed that the Spaniard may wait until next year to join them on a free transfer when his contract expires.

Man City will have to fight off rivals for Tonali’s signature
It is believed that Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has been able to persuade his fellow countryman of the merits of moving to the North London club.
While Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Tonali, it seems Spurs may well pose the biggest threat to City’s chances of signing the Newcastle player.
However, considering that only one of the two teams will have Champions League football next season, you would expect Tonali to pick a move to the Etihad if it became a straight choice.
