As reported by ESPN, English defender Tino Livramento has picked up a calf injury during training. He got injured in England’s camp in Kansas City on Sunday. His injury is so severe that he would miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Team doctors have informed that the 23-year-old full back will remain sidelined for 6 weeks. The duration which has been stated by the team doctors has ruled Livramento out of the whole **football**tournament. This has prompted England coach, Thomas Tuchel to replace him with another player.
As reported by Sky Sports, Tuchel has called up Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to join the England national team. He will be the replacement for injured Tino Livramento. The Chelsea player can play both as a right back and a centre back. Therefore, he will provide versatility to the team. Thomas Tuchel’s explanation for his decision to call Chalobah
England will play their World Cup opening match against Croatia in Dallas. But before that, the national team’s coach Thomas Tuchel has explained his decision to replace Livramento with the Chelsea’s 26-year-old defender. As reported by Metro, during a press conference Tuchel was asked the reason to bring Chalobah. The German has explained his needs following Livramento’s exit from the World Cup.
He told the reporters that he believes that he has enough squad depth at the full back positions on both left and right side of the defense. The former Blues coach has appreciated the English defenders’ versatility. They can face the challenge to play at any position on the field.
Thomas Tuchel said, “We called Trevoh Chalobah because then we free up Jarell Quansah as a full back on both sides and Djed Spence both sides as a full-back. So Trevoh comes as a centre-back alternative and gives us full coverage in the back four.”
Chalobah’s call up has given rise to many questions
Chalobah has one international appearance for the Three Lions. The English defender made his debut against Senegal in June 2025. England had to face a 3-1 loss in that match. He was in the squad for their last two qualification matches in November 2025. However, he was not introduced in both of the matches.
As reported by Football365, Man United and Premier League legend, Wayne Rooney has expressed his bewilderment at Chalobah’s call-up. He felt that his inclusion is a little bit strange. The former England forward would have liked to Tuchel to bring Man United’s left back, Luke Shaw. He explained that Djed Spence could be back-up for Reece James and then Shaw could enter.
