Liverpool have completed a quickfire move to hijack Osasuna forward Victor Munoz from Newcastle United, Fabrizio Romano revealed late on Wednesday evening.
The Italian journalist broke the news in a surprise exclusive, first sharing the news on X.
He reported: “Liverpool are set to sign Víctor Muñoz with HIJACK done, HERE WE GO!
“Newcastle in advanced talks for days butLFC enter the deal, verbally agree terms with Muñoz and activate his €40m release clause. All set to be signed and another big surpise.”

In further updates, it was revealed that Newcastle had lowballed Osasuna for a week or so, refusing to trigger his release clause, opening the door for Liverpool to hijack the move.
Romano reports that all relevant documents and contracts have been signed by Osasuna, Liverpool and Munoz himself. He has also already completed a medical in some truly impressive business from the Reds.
Real Madrid will receive 50% of the fee due to a sell-on clause inserted into the deal that saw him leave Los Blancos in 2025, meaning they will receive €20m from Osasuna. However, there is no sell-on or buyback clause in the agreement that will now see him join Liverpool.
The player has put pen to paper on a six-year contract.
Further information emerges from several journalists reporting on Munoz deal and other Liverpool transfer business
Journalist Ben Jacobs then joined the reporting on Munoz, sharing that the move to sign the Spaniard was driven by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes after early squad planning conversations with new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool are still working on signing RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, with the deal to sign Munoz not in place of signing the Ivorian. Alex Crook, in conjunction with Jacobs, reports that Liverpool are “optimistic” about signing Diomande.
Liverpool also beat Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen to the punch, although their interest was not as advanced as Newcastle’s, who suffered the same fat last summer when Hugo Ekitike joined the Reds after being close to a move to St. James’ Park.

Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards worked discretely for some time in order to pull off the deal.
