The Dallas Cowboys may need to swallow some pride. If Trevon Diggs is still sitting on the free-agent market, Dallas should at least consider a reunion with its former Pro Bowl cornerback. Yeah. Awwwwwwwkward. Messy. But it would also make plenty of football sense. The Cowboys moved on from Diggs after injuries and frustration changed the relationship, and that still matters. This would not be a simple feel-good reunion. But Dallas still has questions at cornerback, and Diggs remains one of the more interesting buy-low defensive backs available.

At his best, Diggs is a game-changing playmaker:

That version has not always been easy to find lately. Injuries have slowed him, and his market clearly is not what it once would have been. But that is exactly why the Cowboys should be interested. They do not need to pay prime-Diggs money. They need to see whether a familiar player can still give them starting-caliber snaps at a reduced cost.
Dallas knows the risk better than any team. It also knows the upside. Diggs has already played in that building. He understands the pressure, the market, and the expectations. He has made big plays in a Cowboys uniform before. For a team trying to win now, that familiarity should make them pick up the phone. Or at least tweet about it.
The Cowboys do not need to pretend this type of move would fix everything. Diggs would not erase every defensive concern. He might not stay healthy. For sure, he would arrive with questions. But he would give Dallas another high-upside option at a premium position.
Sometimes the best move is not the cleanest one. If the price is right, the Cowboys should not rule out bringing Diggs back.
