Deion Sanders Drops Honest Take On Why Shedeur Sanders Will Need Support As Browns QB

Shedeur Sanders is continuing his father Deion Sanders’ legacy in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns. He finished his rookie season as the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns after getting selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Despite only joining the league, he played a lot of games for the franchise due to other starters getting injured. There has been some criticism of the young player, with his father coming to his support.

Deion Sanders says son Shedeur Sanders needs team support

Shedeur played in 8 games last season, and threw for 1,400 yards and 7 touchdowns with 10 interceptions while also rushing for 169 yards and a touchdown. Ahead of next season, he is expected to compete with veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson for the starting role. Head coach Todd Monken has refused to select a main starting quarterback, though Watson appears to be the clear choice.

He said, “I would have wanted him to perform a little better, but that’s not just an individual thing, that’s a team thing. A quarterback needs help tremendously from the offensive line, from the receivers, from the running game, from the coordinators as well.”

He added, “It’s not just a singular thing, like a defensive back. I don’t care what the pass rush is, the DB has got to do his job. It’s a little different with a quarterback. He needs several things to go right for him to be successful.” Deion also spoke about how his son is being underappreciated.

Deion Sanders says son Shedeur Sanders is undervalued

In a recent interview with Clutch Points, Deion spoke about his quarterback son and the criticism he has been facing. He said, “He’s gonna face haters like he’s always had. He’s not gonna face anything new that he hasn’t faced in the entirety of his life.”

He further added, “He’s always been up against the eight ball. He’s always been really undervalued, not really appreciated like he should, and he always comes through. He likes when odds are stacked up against him.”

Shedeur Sanders will have to prepare as the 2026 NFL season is approaching soon, and will hope to get the starting role.
