Real Madrid have taken to social media with a cheeky post featuring now former Liverpool pair Ibrahima Konate and Trent Alexander‑Arnold – and Reds fans are not exactly happy about it.
The Spanish giants shared a photo of the duo in Liverpool colours alongside the caption “¡Juntos de nuevo!” (“Together again!”), tagging both players and sparking a wave of reaction from supporters.
For a fanbase still getting used to the idea of their stars sharing a dressing room with Madrid players, it felt like a playful little poke from the record European champions.
But the image also lands at an awkward time for the pair.
Alexander‑Arnold was surprisingly left out of England’s World Cup squad, even when Tino Livramento picked up an injury, with Thomas Tuchel instead turning to Trevoh Chalobah as cover.
For a player widely regarded as one of the best ball‑playing full‑backs in world football, it was another reminder of how under‑appreciated he remains at national‑team level.
Konate, meanwhile, is hardly treated as a nailed‑on starter for France. He finds himself behind Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba in Didier Deschamps’ pecking order at centre‑back, even with Saliba having some fitness scares before France’s 3-1 win over Senegal.
The 27-year-old was officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player earlier today.
In Spain, this transfer has felt like an open secret for some time. Florentino Perez effectively built a key part of his latest re‑election platform around landing Konate.
Konate is reportedly set to earn around €24 million gross per season, putting him among the better‑paid defenders in Europe.
Thanks to his free‑agent status, the Frenchman is also in line to receive a sizeable signing‑on bonus believed to be in the region of €20 million, further sweetening his switch to the Bernabeu.
