A former Manchester United coach has emerged as a contender for a vacant managerial position following recent changes in the Scottish Premiership.
Ruben Amorim was dismissed by Manchester United in January and has since been appointed as AC Milan’s new head coach.
Now, another member of the club’s former coaching network is being linked with a move into management.
According to Edinburgh News, Hearts have interviewed a former Manchester United assistant as they continue their search for Derek McInnes’ successor.
The vacancy arose after McInnes departed Tynecastle to become Rangers manager, prompting Hearts to begin an extensive recruitment process with the assistance of data partner Jamestown Analytics.
The candidate in question is Rene Hake, who previously worked at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag was dismissed by Manchester United in 2024 and now serves as technical director at FC Twente.
Hake spent time alongside the Dutchman at Old Trafford before moving on to his next role.
The 54-year-old most recently formed part of Robin van Persie’s coaching staff at Feyenoord.
Yesterday, Feyenoord announced the firing of Rene Hake, who was part of Robin van Persie’s coaching staff.
Before joining Manchester United, Hake built a strong reputation in the Netherlands through managerial roles with clubs including Go Ahead Eagles and FC Twente.
He is understood to be keen on returning to a head coach position after spending recent years working as an assistant.
It is reported that Hearts sporting director Graeme Jones travelled to London earlier this week to hold discussions with a number of candidates as the club accelerated its search for a new manager.
A statement released by Hearts following McInnes’ departure confirmed that succession planning had already been undertaken and that a shortlist of candidates had been identified.
The club are aiming to appoint a new head coach as quickly as possible ahead of pre-season, having already strengthened their squad this summer with several new signings.
