Liverpool has expressed a willingness to pay $115 million (£85 million) to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig this summer and is pushing to make a deal happen for the 19-year-old.

That is according to The Athletic. However, while the Reds are said to be in the driving seat for the Ivory Coast star, the Bundesliga side is still keen to keep him for another year, with its financial position meaning it is in no rush to cash in.

Last week, there was talk of Leipzig wanting around $150 million (£112 million) for Diomande, who scored 13 goals and set up another 10 in all competitions last season.

Diomande is currently impressing at the World Cup, which will only strengthen Leipzig's resolve to hold out for a huge fee, with no firm decision having been taken yet on where he will end up playing next term.

Fresh from confirming the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna, the Reds remain in the market for more attacking additions following the departure of Mohamed Salah.

Andoni Iraola's roster looked light of pace until the arrival of Munoz but still requires more depth to ensure that the Reds can challenge on all fronts next term.

In any race with PSG, who are also very interested in Diomande, Liverpool has the advantage of being able to offer a clear pathway to minutes.

In Paris, Bradley Barcola is considering his future because he is not getting the game time that he would like, whereas Liverpool has lost Salah and could allow Federico Chiesa to leave.

"I think I have the advantage that I've been here already three years in the Premier League and people for sure have seen Bournemouth play," Iraola said when he arrived to replace Arne Slot.

"There are some things that obviously we need to change coaching Liverpool.

"But I wouldn't like to lose our identity, the intensity, the aggressiveness, the organization, certain things that I would like always to have in my team.

"Obviously you have to adapt to the players you have and it's not the same, one club or the other, but there are fundamentals that I also think match quite well [with] what Liverpool has been during a lot of years that I think we can make it work."

The new Premier League season will kick off on the weekend of August 22 and 23, when Munoz and any other new signings could make their competitive debuts.
