Yan Diomande transfer: Liverpool £87m offer rejected by Leipzig

Liverpool have had a €100 million (£87m) proposal for winger Yan Diomande rejected by RB Leipzig.

Diomande quickly emerged as the player Liverpool wish to have as Mo Salah‘s replacement on the right of their attack and is viewed as their primary target this summer.

The Reds have now sent two proposals for the prodigious 19-year-old, reports David Ornstein for the Athletic, as they seek to ensure one of Europe’s most sought-after teenagers heads to Merseyside and not Paris Saint Germain, who are among the other frontrunners.

However, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has explained that the offer – representing €90 million fee plus €10 million in further potential payments – has been rejected.

Leipzig are said to want “more than €100m” and that €120 million (£104m) could be required, but even that depends on World Cup performances.

Romano adds that “Leipzig expect PSG and more clubs to join the race” and are also trying to keep the 19-year-old themselves.

That news will come as a blow to Liverpool, who Ornstein had stated were “firmly in driving seat” after tabling two proposals, which PSG are yet to do – and also having offered better personal terms to the player.

The news follows quickly on the back of the Reds confirming the signing of Spain winger Victor Munoz after activating his £34.5 million release clause.

Munoz is viewed as a multifunctional attacker, capable of playing on either wing, whereas Diomande is very much seen as Salah’s replacement on the right.

Diomande notched 13 goals and 10 assists for Leipzig last season and impressed in Ivory Coast’s opening World Cup match vs. Ecuador.

Brighton‘s Yankuba Minteh, Cologne’s Said El Mala and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo are named as alternative targets if a deal for Diomande doesn’t progress.
