Breaking news: Liverpool have€100m bid rejected, could get deal done at €120m

Liverpool have reportedly had a massive bid rejected for RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, per the latest reports.

Sky Germany journalist Phillip Hinze broke news of a Liverpool bid for Diomande being rejected, although the deal has not collapsed. He reports that Liverpool will return with an improved bid.

Hinze stated: “Liverpool are set to come back soon with a better offer for Yan Diomande after seeing their €100m package rejected (90+10). Reds are already informed about Diomande’s personal terms and expect no complications there, provided a deal with RB Leipzig is agreed. So far, Paris Saint-Germain have not submitted a bid.”

“RB Leipzig want more than €100m as still try to keep him — understand €120m could be the way… for now, based on WC performances too. Leipzig expect PSG and more clubs to join the race.

“€90m plus €10m from Liverpool not enough, as Sky Sports Phillip Hinze reported.”

Ben Jacobs added his voice to the reporting, corroborating claims that Liverpool’s bid for the 19-year-old was rejected, before mentioning that the Reds are assessing other options.

Earlier in the day, Jacobs reported that Liverpool are assessing Köln’s Said El Mala, Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo as alternatives to the Leipzig superstar.

Two contrarians are David Ornstein and Paul Joyce. Before Hinze, Romano and Jacobs reported their stories, the former two journalists shared news that Liverpool value Diomande closer to £86m, compared to Leipzig’s £112m price tag.

Liverpool will, unfortunately, have to overpay to sign Diomande

The sad fact of the matter is that Liverpool will not be able to sign Diomande at their valuation of the teenager. There are several reasons why, but chief among them include PSG and Real Madrid’s rival interest, his meteoric rise to stardom and his form in the World Cup opening game against Ecuador.

Diomande made a mockery of Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie, proving that he can certainly perform at the highest level. The teenager is going to stay at Leipzig, join Liverpool or move to one of Madrid or PSG.

These are the likeliest outcomes, and only paying more than he is worth will get a deal done this summer. Leipzig are well aware that they are sitting on one of the most valuable and sough after assets in the current market and are rightfully going to hold out for the biggest possible fee.

The World Cup has unfortunately come at a terrible time for Liverpool.
