Success comes with its own expectations. Fans now expect a lot more from Chicago. The franchise is no longer viewed as an underdog team.
Ben Johnson’s recent comments about training camp drew extra attention, as fans continue to speculate about how the Bears head coach is handling the pressure following the team’s success in 2025.
He said:
“You’ve got to pay a price if you want to have success in this league,” Johnson said. “I don’t think there’s any way you can cut corners and expect to win on Sundays. Our type of guys embrace it; they want it. So, I’m looking forward to it.”
Johnson’s comments made it clear that this season’s training camp will not be easy. Every player has to give their best, and there is no room for mistakes. The head coach’s remarks were also a subtle way of making it clear that every player must work hard to earn a roster spot.
The coach’s training camp is not for the weak. The practice sessions are designed to prepare the team for the physical and mental challenges they will encounter during the NFL season.
Johnson told reporters:
“We’re still going through the weeds there of what the training camp schedule is going to look like,” Johnson told reporters on Thursday. “I’m hoping, over the next few days, to stamp a number of things. But you have to pay a price, and you have to make deposits if you want to have success in this league.”
Johnson also added:
“I don’t think there’s any way you can cut corners and expect to win on Sundays. Training camp is a big part of that. Our guys understand that. They know what they’re walking into. Our type of guys embrace it. They want it.”
The Bears have given an incredible performance in 2025,and it looks like Johnson is not lowering the standard as the Bears look to take the next step in 2026.

Analyst Chris Simms Labels Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson a ‘Psycho’
The head coach of the Chicago Bears has made his mark and has taken the franchise to a new level, changing the narrative of the organization in just one season.
Johnson is known for his intelligence and is often considered one of the best offensive coaches in the NFL.
Considering how intense he is when it comes to winning games, analyst Chris Simms praised him and labeled him a “psycho as a head coach.”
He said:
“He’s a psycho – and all good coaches are psychos,” Simms told CHGO. “(Kyle) Shanahan is a psycho. (Sean) McVay is psycho. (Mike) Vrabel’s a psycho. (Bill) Belichick was psycho. Bill Walsh was a psycho. Bill Parcells was a psycho. You got to be a psycho. Period. I think you guys see that in the press conferences. And I mean psycho in a good way. It’s all about football. It’s all about pushing buttons to be better at football.”
The landscape of the Bears changed in the 2025 season as they won the NFC North title. The franchise had its first playoff appearance in 15 years.
