“ That’s Not Just an Individual Thing”: Deion Sanders Makes Boldly Defends Shedeur Sanders…

The head coach of Colorado, Deion Sanders, talks about the importance of teamwork in winning games.

CU football head coach Deion Sanders, or Coach Prime, watches his team warm up before the game against CSU in the Rocky Mountain Showdown at Canvas Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, in Fort Collins, Colo.

Deion Sanders was seen backing up his son, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, when asked about the quarterback’s performance during his rookie season.

The former NFL star acknowledged that Shedeur could have performed better during his rookie season, but the head coach also believes that it was not just an individual issue; it was a team effort.

In a recent conversation with D.J. Siddiqi of Covers.com, Deion shared his perspective, explaining that a quarterback’s performance depends heavily on the support he receives from the rest of the team.

He said:

“I would have wanted him to perform a little better, but that’s not just an individual thing; that’s a team thing. A quarterback needs help tremendously from the offensive line, from the receivers, from the running game, and from the coordinators as well. It’s not just a singular thing, like a defensive back. I don’t care what the pass rush is; [the DB] has got to do his job. It’s a little different with a quarterback. He needs several things to go right for him to be successful.”

Some fans believe that the head coach is not just emphasizing the importance of teamwork and the support a quarterback needs to be at his best, but is also trying to defend his son’s performance.

The Cleveland Browns’ performance last season was far from their best, as the franchise finished with a 5–12 record.

With training camp approaching, it will be interesting to see whether Sanders can prove himself and earn the starting quarterback job.

For the Browns, Shedeur’s performance in training camp could play a major role in shaping the team’s future for the 2026 season.

Deion Sanders Shares Thoughts on Browns Trading Myles Garrett

The head coach shared his thoughts on the Browns’ decision to trade franchise star pass rusher Myles Garrett for Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Jared Verse.

The organization’s decision to trade its star player could statistically weaken the team heading into the 2026 NFL season. Before the trade took place, the head coach had a very different opinion and was full of praise for Garrett.

He said:

“They got a killer on defense. I’m tired of y’all talking about trading him and getting rid of him. That doesn’t make any sense to me. That’s a once-in-a-lifetime man. That’s a once-in-a-lifetime man that you don’t see anymore. I don’t get rid of that. Unless I could get your mama, daddy, your uncle, cousins, and everybody in a trade for that. Because that’s a grown man. That’s a winner. That’s a winner.”

The former NFL star changed his stance once the trade was completed. In a conversation with Siddiqi, when asked about the trade and Browns general manager Andrew Berry, Deion said:

“I’m happy with Mr. Berry, the GM, and what he’s doing. I’m not going to question his direction or what he’s bringing to the table. I’m not there, so I don’t know all the intangibles that led to that trade. I’m happy with what they got, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.”

The trade will remain one of the biggest talking points of the 2026 season.

The Browns made a bold decision by moving on from one of the league’s premier defensive players.

Only time will tell whether the move proves to be the right one. The true impact of the trade will be revealed once the season begins.
