It has been a hectic couple of days when it comes to Liverpool Football Club and the transfer window.
First there was the shock announcement that Liverpool had usurped Newcastle United to the signing of Osasuna star Victor Munoz.
Less than 24 hours after that, The Reds officially confirmed the deal themselves and announced that the 22-year-old Spain international would move to Merseyside.
If that day was something, today has added more drama.
Just within the past hour, reports from Germany have come out that RB Leipzig have rejected a €100m bid for Yan Diomande from Liverpool.
While Liverpool may have been knocked back on that front, it appears that they’re still proactively making moves to strengthen.
And this time, it’s in central defence.
On the day that Real Madrid officially confirmed the signing of Ibrahima Konate, The Reds have made enquiries of their own for an English Premier League defender.
Dutch journalist Mike Verweij has tweeted that both Barcelona and Liverpool have made enquiries to sign Micky van de Ven.
Verweij is arguably the leading journalist from the Netherlands and is regarded as incredibly reliable when it comes to news regarding Dutch players.
Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven is currently at the FIFA World Cup 2026 with the Netherlands and started in their opening group again against Japan.
While Spurs have been linked with their own purchases as the club look to bolster the squad for Roberto De Zerbi, it appears that the future of one of their star men is back in doubt.
Mike Verweij reports that there has been an impasse in contract talks between van de Ven and Tottenham Hotspur and both Barcelona and Liverpool are looking to take advantage of that situation.
While Liverpool had a disappointing season and finished fifth, it wasn’t anything close to the disaster suffered by Spurs.
The London giants only survived relegation on the last day of the season and many questioned which players would leave as the club look to put up a better showing for 2026/27.
Those with long memories will remember that this isn’t the first time that Micky van de Ven has been linked with a move to Anfield.
Back in 2023, before his move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the central defender was linked with Liverpool while he was still playing with German side Wolfsburg.
There was even an image circulated of van de Ven visiting Anfield when he was younger.
Three years after those initial links, it appears that Liverpool are looking to make a move to bring the Netherlands star in to bolster the ranks ahead of Andoni Iraola’s first season in charge of the club.
