He made his LaLiga debut under Carlo Ancelotti in May 2025, coming on as a substitute against Barcelona for Vinícius Junior.
The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract with Osasuna later that summer and went on to make 34 league appearances last season, scoring six goals and registering two assists.
According to The Telegraph, the move was driven by sporting director Richard Hughes and chief executive of football Michael Edwards, with input from new head coach Andoni Iraola, who had tracked the winger’s progress in Spain.
The report claims that “it has not been a secret that Liverpool wanted to add pace and dynamism to the flanks and the move for Munoz was orchestrated by sporting director Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, the chief executive of football, for owners Fenway Sports Group. What set the wheels in motion, though, were discussions with Iraola, who had followed Muñoz’s progress in Spain.
“Once Hughes and Edwards had explained Liverpool’s interest to the new head coach and he was fully on board, the Anfield club went full speed to get to the head of the queue.”
“Muñoz is the latest example of how Liverpool are changing the profile of their squad in terms of its age, to build a team that can progress together.”
Liverpool had already completed a piece of business ahead of the summer window with a January agreement to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.
Further additions are expected, with the club actively pursuing Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande. However, they face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for the RB Leipzig forward.
Bradley Barcola of PSG has also been discussed as a potential target in wider attacking planning. Liverpool have already seen a €100million bid rejected by Leipzig but are preparing to return with an improved offer as they step up efforts to secure Diomande’s signature.
