The Buffalo Bills are motivated to get to the Super Bowl with Josh Allen under center. The 30-year-old has proven to be one of the best starting quarterbacks in the NFL and is in the middle of his prime. While quarterbacks often times play well into their late 30s and even early 40s nowadays, the Bills want to get a championship under their belt before it’s too late.

Prior to the start of the 2026 season, the team has made a move for their offense that could shore up their running back position.

The Buffalo Bills Add MVP Running Back

Running back Ian Wheeler has been signed by the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. With the UFL’s Louisville Kings this past season, Wheeler rushed for 370 yards and six touchdowns. He was named the United Bowl’s MVP after rushing for 81 yards and scoring a 44-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to give his team the lead.

During the last two preseasons, Wheeler was among the Chicago Bears‘ top running backs. His total of 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns during last year’s pre-season was tied for the most on the team.

As one of the top running backs in the UFL this past season, Wheeler has proven to be an exceptional talent. In addition to showing his blazing speed for big plays late in the season, he proved throughout the season that he is capable of picking up tough yards in goal line situations.

From 2019 to 2023, Ian Wheeler played running back for Howard University, rushing for 1,154 yards and 14 touchdowns on 177 carries. As a versatile dual-threat player and special teams standout, he also caught 23 passes for 234 yards and scored three touchdowns on kickoff returns.

During his time at Howard, he accomplished the following:

Career Rushing: 1,154 yards and 14 touchdowns on 177 carries, an average of 6.5 yards per carry.

Career Receiving: 23 receptions, 234 yards, 1 receiving touchdown.

Return Game: 1,322 kickoff return yards, including three touchdown returns.
