Barcelona star Dani Olmo has revealed that Marc Cucurella did not tell any of his Spanish teammates at the FIFA World Cup about his Real Madrid move. The midfielder admitted that he was surprised at the decision.
Speaking to the media, Olmo said that Cucurella was set to suffer in La Liga as he seals his return to Spain. The Barcelona star added that he was confident that Lamine Yamal would take care of the left-back in El Clasico and said:
"We didn’t expect Marc Cucurella to join Real Madrid. He kept it to himself and didn’t tell anyone. Now he’ll have to suffer in La Liga, against Lamine for example, and we’ll also suffer from him."
Talking about the transfers made by Real Madrid, Olmo said he expected them to go big after failing to win silverware for two seasons.
"It’s normal that after two years without a win they are reinforced, they are world-class players, but we are not worried. We have made a great signing with Gordon and we are happy." (via Barca Blaugranes)
Meanwhile, Cucurella had a clear message for fans who were questioning his decision. He said that his time at Barcelona did not it a hard decision for him to join Los Blancos and said:
"I’m very happy with the decision I made. Understandably, there are people who don’t understand it, but life requires making decisions. Those are different stages, and my stage at Barcelona I wouldn’t change it, and I’m grateful for everything I learned."
"But at this stage of my life, I believed this was the most appropriate decision and the one that suited me best, so I made this decision. Real Madrid is a great club and one of the best clubs in the world. It’s very hard to refuse that." (via Barca Universal)
Marc Cucurella has been the main left-back for Spain in the last few years, and started in the goalless draw to Cape Verde earlier this week at the FIFA World Cup.
Real Madrid sealed Marc Cucurella deal before FIFA World Cup
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were in talks with Chelsea to sign Marc Cucurella this summer. The defender reportedly wanted to wait until the end of the FIFA World Cup before making a decision.
However, Jose Mourinho's arrival at Real Madrid changed their plan and he agreed to move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos agreed a €60 million deal with Chelsea for the left-back.
