“He’s Done” Cowboys 7-Year Veteran Out For 2026 Season After Brutal Upper Body Injury

The Dallas Cowboys know that their fan base is getting impatient. Having one of the highest paid offenses in the league should not result in seven win seasons. Unfortunately, that is exactly what has happened in 2024 and 2025. The same high expectations will be present for the team going into 2026.

However, one veteran has already been ruled out for the year.

Dallas Cowboys Lose Veteran To Neck Injury

In the last few weeks, Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line has been the subject of media attention. Reports have circulated that left tackle Tyler Guyton may lose his starting position in the coming season. It is likely that he will face a challenge from former seventh round pick Nathan Thomas, a third year guard who impressed when forced to play last season.

On Thursday, however, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the team suffered a blow to their offensive line when it was announced that backup center Matt Hennessy will miss the entire 2026 season due to an injury.

“The Cowboys are placing veteran OL Matt Hennessy on season-ending injured reserve, according to sources. He recently had neck surgery, and the Cowboys were preparing to have him open the season on PUP but opted to move him to IR.” Archer wrote on June 18.

The Atlanta Falcons originally drafted Hennessy in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Temple. After winning the job in Year 2 (2021), he struggled and started only 3 of 11 games the following year.

Following a stint with the 49ers in 2025, Hennessy joined the Dallas Cowboys as a backup center option following Brock Hoffman’s departure in the free agent market.
