Official: Work permit pending, Liverpool announce second signing to take summer spend to £94.6m

Liverpool have added Victor Munoz as their second signing of the summer after reaching an agreement with Rennes to sign Jeremy Jacquet in January.

In an official statement on their website and social media pages, Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Munoz.

The statement reads: “Liverpool FC have agreed a deal to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna, subject to a successful work permit application and international clearance.

“Munoz is the first new addition since the arrival of head coach Andoni Iraola and will link up with his new teammates later this summer after his participation in the tournament with his national team has concluded. The 22-year-old has two caps for Spain and marked his debut against Serbia in March with a goal.

“The international recognition came after an outstanding season with Osasuna in which he made 34 appearances, scoring seven times and claiming five assists in all competitions.

“Munoz moved to Los Rojillos last summer from Real Madrid, for whom he made four appearances after graduating from their youth set-up having previously been with the academy of his hometown club, FC Barcelona.

“The attacker is set to be involved in Spain’s second World Cup group-stage game on Sunday when they take on Saudi Arabia in Atlanta. Munoz is the second addition to the Reds’ playing squad ahead of 2026-27, after a deal was agreed for the acquisition of Jeremy Jacquet earlier this year.”

Munoz signing officially takes Liverpool’s financial commitment for 2026 to £94.6m

With the £34.6m addition of Munoz (22) added to the £60m acquisition of Jacquet, Liverpool’s summer transfer spending has already come close to £100m, with plenty of work to come.

The Reds acted quickly to trigger Munoz’s €40m (£34.6m) release clause to gazump Newcastle United. The Magpies were dallying in their talks, which, despite being advanced, saw them lowball Osasuna with multiple bids before Liverpool swooped in to reach an agreement with the La Liga outfit.

Despite concerns that Munoz would be the Reds’ only attacking summer signing, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that more signings are expected.

The Italian journalist assured fans of more business saying: “ Many Liverpool fans have been asking me [after agreeing the deal for Munoz] if this means it’s closing doors to signing another winger – my answer is no… They are working behind the scenes to add at least one more winger to the squad.

“The idea of Liverpool is to add one more winger to the squad. I expect Liverpool to be busy with midfielders, but I expect Liverpool to add one more winger.”
