Tottenham want to secure renewal as soon as possible – De Zerbi insistent, player unsure

Liverpool and Barcelona have made approaches for Tottenham Hotspur‘s Micky van de Ven.

Barca’s interest in the centre-back isn’t new. Three months ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that he wants to leave Tottenham this summer.

The La Liga winners identified him as an alternative to Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.

The Italian is no longer an option for Barca, who could consider signing the Tottenham star this summer. The Catalan club have to be wary of Liverpool.

Liverpool and Barcelona contact Tottenham player

De Telegraaf report both Liverpool and Barcelona have knocked on the 25-year-old’s door.

Soccer News relays more updates from the newspaper, focusing mainly on Spurs’ stance on the Netherlands international.

He joined Tottenham Hotspur from VfL Wolfsburg for €40m in 2023 and has been a first choice since then.

Micky van de Ven played every minute under Roberto De Zerbi and captained Spurs in Cristian Romero’s absence. The north London club have already expressed their desire to secure his long-term future.

The newspaper states: ‘The latter [Van de Ven] is remarkable, because Tottenham and Van de Ven already expressed their intention to continue working together months ago.’

De Zerbi is also happy with the Dutchman and would find it a bitter pill to swallow if he were to leave. Therefore, the Premier League side want to secure his renewal as soon as possible. However, the defender’s camp doesn’t seem to be on the same page.

There’s belief Van de Ven could consider moving elsewhere this summer. If that happens, it’ll be a hard blow for the Spurs manager.

De Telegraaf state: ‘There is a chance that Van de Ven wants to take the next step after three years. Another possibility is that Tottenham simply cannot manage to entice him to sign a new contract. What is clear, however, is that Barcelona and Liverpool hope that a transfer will become a possibility this summer.’

Contract, value and agent info

Micky van de Ven has three years left on his contract and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €50m.

Agency Team Raiola, headed by agent Enzo Raiola, represent the Dutch defender.

He played 45 matches for Spurs this season, even managing seven goals and an assist.
