The Premier League fixture release has set the stage for the first top-flight appearances of Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet, with both players now learning their likely debut opponents ahead of a challenging start to the new season.

Jacquet was brought to Anfield during the January transfer window expecting to join up with Arne Slot before his departure, with the terms of his $80 million (£60 million) transfer agreement seeing the central defender remain at Rennes for the rest of the campaign. However, just a week after the deal was completed, Jacquet suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Liverpool has also confirmed the $46 million (£35 million) signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna, with the 22-year-old Spanish international becoming the first addition of the Andoni Iraola era at the club.

Liverpool supporters will be eager to see the duo in action when the new season begins. Munoz and Jacquet could make their Premier League debuts against Newcastle on August 23, with the clash set to pit Munoz against the club he came close to joining.

Having also agreed terms with the 22-year-old, it appeared only the formalities of a medical and the final signing remained before another addition for Eddie Howe’s side was completed. However, according to Chronicle Live, Newcastle were instructed at the last moment to pause the process by the player’s representatives, despite a medical having been scheduled in the United States, where he is currently involved in the World Cup with Spain.

The change came after Munoz’s camp was informed that Liverpool had triggered his $46 million release clause. That development shifted the dynamics of the transfer, with the winger’s preference reportedly moving away from a switch to the North East and instead in favour of a move to the North West with the Reds.

The pair could then make their domestic Anfield debuts on August 29 when the Reds host Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool will be hoping that Munoz and Jacquet won't be the only potential Reds debutants. Liverpool’s summer transfer business is beginning to take shape, with several deals lined up over the coming weeks as the club looks to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.

While the move for Munoz has raised questions over the pursuit of another winger, the Reds remain in the market for another especially with the departure of Mohamed Salah. One of the top targets is RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande. Liverpool.com understands that the Reds would be prepared to assemble a package worth in the region of €100 million ($115 million/£85 million) to secure the 19-year-old. Bradley Barcola is another option who has been linked.

Liverpool has also been linked with a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, with reports that the Reds are “intensifying” their efforts to sign him.

The report claims Liverpool are willing to submit an offer exceeding $92.6 million for the England international if Crystal Palace are prepared to negotiate at that valuation.
