The Andoni Iraola era will begin with a trip to Newcastle United with Liverpool visiting St James' Park in their first game of the new Premier League season.

The Reds will travel to Tyneside on Sunday, August 23 for what is expected to be a raucous affair and a difficult assignment for new boss Iraola.

Liverpool pipped Newcastle to transfer target Victor Munoz earlier this week when they triggered his £34.5m release clause with Osasuna and with the £125m deal for striker Alexander Isak last year still fresh in the memory, a hostile atmosphere will await Iraola's Reds in the North East.

Iraola will play his first Premier League match at Anfield against Nottingham Forest on August 29 before a trip to newly-promoted Ipswich Town the following week.

After a visit from Fulham and a trip to Bournemouth in September, Liverpool will welcome Manchester City to Anfield on October 10, following the international break.

City are yet to officially name a successor to Pep Guardiola but the FA Cup and League Cup holders are expected to travel across the M62 with former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca in charge.

The first clash with champions Arsenal will be at Anfield on October 31, while the first Merseyside derby of the campaign will be played at Hill Dickinson Stadium on November 28, a week after the Reds host Michael Carrick's Manchester United.

The reverse fixtures of those two games will also be also played a week apart, with the Reds hosting the Blues in the Anfield derby in late January after a meeting with United at Old Trafford on the 23rd of that month.

A first meeting with Chelsea arrives on December 12 before a Boxing Day trip to Hull City follows on from visits from Leeds United (December 12) and Tottenham Hotspur (December 19).

Liverpool play Aston Villa before the calendar year is out, on December 30 before 2027 kicks off with a visit from Frank Lampard's Coventry on January 2. Iraola ends the season against his former club, Bournemouth, on May 30.

All games at this stage of the summer are subject to change around television schedules.
