Fresh off the back of a strong recovery, Manchester United head into 2026/27 looking to build on a third-place finish and a return to the Champions League as they chase a return to the top of English football.
The Red Devils’ recruitment team have been busy reshaping the squad, with a midfield overhaul and the left flank identified as the summer’s main priorities following the departure of Casemiro and the expected exit of Manuel Ugarte.
United have already agreed a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson in a move worth £35 million (around €45 million), with the 26-year-old set to complete his switch in early July.
He is expected to be the first of several arrivals, with up to five signings anticipated as the club strengthens for a multi-front campaign.
Now, with the official fixture list revealed on the Premier League website, Michael Carrick knows exactly what he is preparing for in his first full season as permanent head coach.
The Red Devils are set for an opening game against Hull City away at the MKM Stadium.
Last season United began with a 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal, a difficult start under Ruben Amorim that preceded Carrick’s mid-season appointment and the turnaround that carried United back into Europe’s top competition.
United will be hoping for a far smoother campaign this time as Omar Berrada presses on with Project 150, the club’s roadmap to a 21st league title by their 150th anniversary in 2028.
The chief executive recently said United would aim to land it “ideally next season,” underlining the ambition behind Carrick’s permanent appointment.
For now, the head coach will be focused on getting matchday one right and using a strong platform to build from.
