Arsenal have reportedly moved to secure highly rated teenage goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney, hijacking interest from Liverpool to land the 15-year-old following an impressive trial spell in north London.
According to emerging reports, Arsenal have successfully agreed a deal to sign Blayney from Northern Irish club Larne after the youngster impressed coaching staff during a recent trial period with the Premier League side’s academy setup.
Blayney, regarded as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Northern Ireland, had also attracted interest from Liverpool, who were monitoring his development closely before Arsenal accelerated their move to complete the signing.
The teenager’s performances during his trial are understood to have convinced Arsenal’s academy recruitment team that he possesses the technical ability, shot-stopping reflexes and composure on the ball required to develop within the club’s long-term development structure.
Arsenal have placed increasing emphasis on recruiting elite young talent into their Hale End academy in recent years, with a clear focus on developing players capable of progressing into the first team under the club’s modern coaching framework.
Blayney’s arrival is viewed as part of that wider strategy, with the Gunners continuing to invest in emerging prospects from across the UK and Ireland as they compete with rival Premier League clubs for the best teenage talent.
Liverpool are said to have been tracking the goalkeeper for some time, having identified him as a potential long-term addition to their academy system. However, Arsenal’s proactive approach during the trial period is understood to have given them the advantage in negotiations.
The 15-year-old is expected to initially link up with Arsenal’s youth development squads as he continues his progression through the club’s academy pathway. Coaches are believed to be planning a gradual development programme aimed at refining his technique, distribution and command of the penalty area.
While no official announcement has been made by either club, the move is widely reported to have been finalised, with Arsenal completing another addition to their growing pool of elite youth prospects.
Neither Arsenal , Liverpool nor Larne have publicly commented on the transfer, and details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
However, the deal is being seen as another example of the increasing competition among Premier League clubs to secure top teenage talent early, with Arsenal once again demonstrating their intent to strengthen their academy ranks ahead of future seasons.
