Mikel Arteta has the chance to etch his name into the history books and become just the fourth manager to ever defend a Premier League title, and the first to do so at Arsenal. Since the English top-flight was relaunched as a limited company in 1992, the Gunners have been crowned champions four times.

Manchester United leapt out of the gates, topping the table in three of the first four seasons. Then, Arsene Wenger walked through the doors at Highbury and quickly established Arsenal as one of the powerhouses in the Premier League, winning the title three times in his first eight outings.

But under Sir Alex Ferguson, the Red Devils remained a force to be reckoned with, and the Gunners never managed to defend their crown. After winning the Premier League unbeaten, Arsenal didn't get their hands on the trophy again until 22 years later.

During that period, Jose Mourinho won back-to-back titles with Chelsea before Pep Guardiola upped the ante at Manchester City, becoming the first and only ever to win the competition four seasons in a row.

Last term, Arsenal ended their barren run in the Premier League, lifting the trophy for the first time since 2003/04. Now, Arteta has the chance to write himself and the club into the history books.

The Gunners will face strong competition from Manchester City and Liverpool, though, who will be determined to dethrone them next season. So, with that being said, football.london has compared Arsenal's fixtures to Manchester City and Liverpool.

Thousands of Arsenal fans upgraded their matchday last season. This is how they did it.
