Arsenal transfer news took a decisive turn on Thursday, with the Gunners submitting an official bid to sign Leicester City teenager Jeremy Monga and pushing hard to get the deal wrapped up this summer.

Jeremy Monga deal gathers pace

Arsenal have sent a bid worth between £10m and £15m to sign the 16-year-old winger, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the offer is now official. Both sides are moving quickly, and optimism is growing that a deal can be concluded in the coming days. Monga has been on the Gunners’ radar for months. Arsenal want him, Monga wants to join, and the pieces are falling into place.

Leicester face a straight decision over whether to sell. As reported by ESPN, the Foxes are heading into League One next season following back-to-back relegations, which significantly weakens their bargaining position. Monga’s academy deal turns professional on his 17th birthday, July 10, and Arsenal are determined to have everything signed and sealed before that date. A tribunal may still be needed to settle the final fee if the two clubs cannot agree.

Monga’s stats for Leicester City in the 2025/26 season, as per FOTMOB:

Competition Appearances Goals Assists Minutes played

Championship 27 1 2 921

FA Cup 2 0 0 107

EFL Cup 1 0 0 60

A teenager who has already left a mark

Monga is not your average academy prospect. As reported by ESPN, he made his senior debut at just 15 years and eight months, coming off the bench in a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in April 2025. He went on to make seven Premier League appearances that season, taking his overall senior tally for Leicester to 27 appearances, becoming one of the youngest players ever to feature in English football’s top flight.

When Leicester were relegated, many expected Monga to fade into the background. Instead, he stepped up. During the 2025/26 Championship campaign, he made 27 appearances across all competitions and became the youngest player ever to score in the second tier, netting against Preston North End in August, as reported by BBC.

He has also caught the eye internationally. Monga has scored for England U18s against Greece and Cyprus, showing he can perform at representative level too. Scouts across Europe have been watching, but Arsenal moved fastest and with the most conviction.

Why Arsenal are betting big on Monga’s long-term potential?

Mikel Arteta has built his squad by identifying elite young talent early and giving them the environment to grow. Myles Lewis-Skelly is the perfect example, breaking into the first team after coming through Arsenal’s system. William Saliba joined young, was developed carefully, and is now regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe.

Jeremy Monga would not be expected to walk straight into the first team. As reported by football.london, he would train regularly with Arteta’s squad, giving the manager a chance to assess him up close. A loan move further down the line has not been ruled out either. Given what Arsenal have done with Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman in recent seasons, however, first-team minutes are not out of the question.

The latest Arsenal transfer news also points to wider ambition this window. Piero Hincapie is set to join permanently from Bayer Leverkusen, while Arsenal remain in pursuit of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as their primary attacking target. Young, already tested at senior level and built for the way Arteta wants his team to play, Monga fits the long-term plan perfectly.

At £10m to £15m for a player of this profile, Arsenal may look back on this as one of their smartest pieces of business in years.
