Liverpool’s name and Micky van de Ven’s have been circling each other for quite some time now, and this latest burst of speculation feels more like the continuation of a long storyline than the start of a new one.
The Reds have been repeatedly linked with the Dutch defender over the last two years, with recruitment staff keeping tabs on him when he was still at Wolfsburg before his Spurs move.
Now, reliable Dutch outlet De Telegraaf has taken the story up a level, reporting that both Liverpool and Barcelona have formally registered serious interest with Tottenham.
According to their information, the two European giants have made it clear that Van de Ven is high on their lists as they plan for the next phase of their squads, with Liverpool exploring options to strengthen at centre‑back this summer.
It was even stated that the Reds had lodged a formal enquiry.
However, this is where Fabrizio Romano has stepped in to pore some cold water on the rumours.
In a fresh update on his YouTube channel, the transfer reporter insists Tottenham currently view Van de Ven as “untouchable”, saying that the expectation inside Spurs is for “no movements around Micky van de Ven in this summer transfer window”:
“Many questions I’m getting coming out of the Dutch press. With maximum respect to anyone who has their own information or own news.”
“Micky van de Ven linked with Liverpool? What I can say is that he is considered a crucial player by Tottenham management and Roberto De Zerbi – same as Pedro Porro who signed a new contract,” Romano explained.
“He’s completely untouchable and they want van de Ven to stay. So the expectation is no movements around Micky van de Ven in this summer transfer window.”
“If something changes, I will let you know, but the stance today is very clear – no exit for Micky van de Ven.”
So for now, Liverpool’s long‑running admiration appears to be just that: admiration from afar.
The club’s scouts and decision‑makers clearly like Van de Ven a lot, but prising him away from a Premier League rival this summer may prove far more complicated than the latest headlines suggest.
