The news about former Man Utd player Casemiro’s transfer has taken an interesting turn. The Brazilian defensive midfielder was all set to join Lionel Messi’s club in Major League Soccer. However, the transfer has been unexpectedly delayed.
Casemiro’s move to Inter Miami delayed by unusual objection
As reported by Goal, Casemiro expressed his interest in joining Inter Miami. This is the American club in Major League Soccer where Messi currently plays professional soccer. The 34-year-old is leaving the Red Devils after the 2025-26 season. However, the transfer deal has been delayed due to an unusual situation.
Another club, LA Galaxy, expressed their interest in securing the Brazilian. As reported by Goal, LA Galaxy had purportedly secured the ‘discovery rights’ for Casemiro. They have now demanded a compensation of £750,000 for the same. Until both clubs reach an agreement, the former Man Utd player cannot join Inter Miami.

Casemiro’s overall contribution to Man Utd
Man Utd will certainly miss Casemiro a lot. He joined the Red Devils in 2022. Additionally, he was a vital cog to the team’s defense. Before that, the Brazilian played for Real Madrid between 2013 and 2022. In between, he was also loaned out to Porto for a brief spell between 2014 and 2015.
The Red Devils had a roller-coaster ride in the 2025-26 season. They faced early exits in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. However, they finished in third place in the Premier League. This also helped them secure a ticket for the upcoming UEFA Champions League.
Casemiro is currently focusing on making Brazil proud at the ongoing FIFA World Cup. He was named in the 26-man squad announced by head coach Carlo Ancelotti on May 19.
Brazil began the World Cup on a not so impressive note. Despite some promise, Selecao drew with Morocco 1-1 in the opening group match. They will have to win their next group match against Haiti on June 20, if they wish to end the 24-year-old World Cup title drought. Brazil will face Scotland in their final group match on June 25. It has been more than a decade since Brazil last reached the final four in the World Cup. Casemiro is hopeful of changing the equations.
Future gameplan for Casemiro
However, after the World Cup, the Brazilian midfielder needs to work on both his fitness and his discipline. Casemiro was served 9 yellow cards, as well a red card in the Premier League last year. Additionally, he sustained multiple injuries between November 2025 and May 2026.
If the midfielder wants to make it big in North American **football**next season, he has to ensure he is in top form, both physically and mentally. Casemiro has been quite helpful to Man Utd in terms of maintaining the defense. His absence next season will cause a void that is hard to fill.
However, manager Michael Carrick is hopeful of getting suitable replacements for the defensive midfielder. Carrick was instrumental in restoring the prestige of the Red Devils in the 2025-26 season. This is also why he was made the permanent manager of the team for the next season. It would be interesting to see if Casemiro overcomes the hurdles and join Messi at Inter Miami by next year.
