Compared to rivals Real Madrid, it has been a quiet summer so far for Barcelona, although that was to be expected. Four players have already arrived at the Bernabeu in the last couple of weeks, and two of them are familiar to defender Eric Garcia.
Eric is currently at the 2026 World Cup with Spain, and one of his teammates is Marc Cucurella. The defender swapped Chelsea for Real Madrid earlier this week, and as per MD, the Barcelona man gave his reaction.
“It’s summer, it’s transfer season, players change teams. I think it’s something natural. We are happy for our colleagues if it is the change they wanted. Víctor’s thing also came out and we were happy for him. Now we’ll have to be a little more careful with (Cucurella). He’s a very good guy and if he’s decided what’s best for his future, then go ahead.”
Bernardo Silva has also signed for Real Madrid. The Portuguese had been linked with Barcelona, but in the end, a reunion with former Manchester City teammate Eric was not to be. The 25-year-old was asked about that deal, as well as Los Blancos strengthening as a whole.
“Real Madrid are being strengthened. They already had good players and they are adding quality and experience. But I think we’ve also strengthened well with Anthony Gordon. I think the squad we have was already very good and I’m sure we’ll have another successful season.”
Eric on Gordon: He will help us a lot

Eric spoke further on Gordon, whom Barcelona signed from Newcastle United earlier this month. He sees him as being a different option to the club’s current wingers.
“He is a very fast player, who does not stop pressing. I think it’s something different to what we have, maybe because we have one-on-one wingers like Lamine or Rapha. But he is an extreme who is very fond of space. I think that can also help us a lot. And obviously later, when it comes to pressing. When we played against him this year, we have already seen it too.”
Eric was also asked about the possibility of Barcelona signing Julian Alvarez, who is their leading target to replace Robert Lewandowski.
“I can only tell you that he is a very good player because he has shown it, but I am not going to go into what his future holds because I don’t know either.”
