Alexander Isak fears allayed after training on his own with Sweden

Alexander Isak is not considered a fitness concern for Sweden ahead of their clash with the Netherlands, despite training on his own earlier in the week.

Isak worked separate to the rest of the Sweden squad on Wednesday having played 90 minutes in their 5-1 win over Tunisia two days previous.

That led to concerns the Liverpool striker had suffered another fitness issue, after a campaign marred by a series of setbacks and a broken leg.

But Sweden have now moved to allay fears over Isak’s involvement against the Netherlands on Saturday evening, with “no problems” for head coach Graham Potter.

“Everyone is training and there are no problems,” Sweden’s press officer told Fotbollskanalen on Thursday.

“The plan is for everyone to train hard. Yesterday there was training three days after the match and then there was a small individual programme towards the end.

“Today we are going into the preparations for the next match. Then the plan is for everyone to be involved.”

That is a major boost for Sweden, with Isak having scored one and assisted two in their thrashing of Tunisia.

He can now be expected to start again this weekend, which would pit him against Liverpool team-mates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo.

Isak has faced Van Dijk on six occasions, including five as a starter, and though he has only won one of those games the striker has scored four times against his now-club captain.

Sweden scraped through to the World Cup via the playoffs, having only reached that stage through their performance in the UEFA Nations League.

But after the first round of games they sit top of Group F, with the Netherlands held to a 2-2 draw by Japan last week.

Liverpool’s eight representatives at this summer’s World Cup – now including £34.5 million signing Vitor Munoz – were responsible for more goals than any other club’s players in the opening round of fixtures.

With two goals and six assists for their respective countries, the Reds on duty provided twice as many as Arsenal‘s – second-most with four goal involvements.

Isak (one goal, two assists) was involved in 37.5 percent of those goals, along with Van Dijk (one goal), Gravenberch (two assists), Florian Wirtz (one assist) and Alexis Mac Allister (one assist).
