Kit for Kids - How to take part in our competition backed by Leigh Sports Village

As the world embraces a summer of football, we’ve kicked off our very own World Cup-style challenge here in Leigh – and your family can help crown the champions.

Last week we launched Win Kit for Kids, a new competition giving grassroots teams the chance to win £1,000 of sports kit and an incredible sporting experience with the chance to win 10 tickets to watch the women’s team play on home turf at Leigh Sports Village Stadium, thanks to our campaign partner Leigh Sports Village. No matter what sport they play the team will also receive a free pitch hire session at Leigh Sports Hub, the region’s premier multi surface sports pitch facility.

We're printing special Win Kit for Kids tokens in the Leigh Journal for the next weeks. Local junior sports teams – from football and rugby to netball, cricket, hockey and more – are invited to sign up and rally their supporters.

Every token collected and handed in to a team counts as one point. Parents, guardians, grandparents, neighbours and friends can all join in by buying the paper, cutting out the tokens and passing them on.

The team that tops our Win Kit for Kids league table at the final whistle will scoop £1,000 of kit, courtesy of Leigh Sports Village. Tokens are to be collected by the participating teams or posted into voting boxes located at: Leigh Sports Village, Sale Way; Tesco Extra, Spinning Jenny Way; Leigh Leisure Centre, Sale Way; Spinning Gate News, Spinning Gate Shopping Mall and Morrison’s, Sale Way.

Andrew Kilmurray, editor of the Leigh Journal, said: “We have a thriving grassroots sports scene across Leigh but we know running these clubs comes at a cost and they often need help to fund kit.

“This presents a great chance for teams to compete to top our Win Kit for Kids league table and land the big prize thanks to Fairfield Independent Hospital.”

James Winterbottom, director of strategy and innovation at Wigan Council, said: “Leigh Sport Village’s mission is to ensure that well-being, sporting, cultural and educational opportunities are available to everyone.”

“We are really pleased to be working with Manchester United to make this happen, alongside an incredible kit giveaway.”

James added: “There is already so much buzz about the World Cup and we hope this competition will shine a light on the great work these clubs are doing day in and day out inspiring Leigh’s young people and bringing the community together.

“Here at the LSV, we aim to be the number one venue for health, education, sports and events and are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to the grassroots teams on our doorstep.”
