Ayyoub Bouaddi Arsenal transfer could be in works with personal terms reportedly close. Alex Scott wants to join. Real Madrid made a late move and walked away. Liverpool are already looking elsewhere. This is shaping up to be a big week for Arsenal’s midfield rebuild.
If this report is accurate, Arsenal are in the process of completing one of the most decisive pieces of business of the entire summer window, not because of fee size but because of who they are beating to the punch.
Real Madrid made a late enquiry for Ayyoub Bouaddi two nights ago and have already walked away over the fee while Alex Scott has reportedly told people directly that he wants to join Arsenal. And Liverpool, who have held conversations with both players, are understood to already be looking elsewhere.
Why Madrid’s late move for Ayyoub Bouaddi actually strengthens Arsenal’s hand

The detail about Real Madrid’s late enquiry is the most significant part of this report. This builds directly on what we already knew, Andrea Berta personally flew to New York City to meet Bouaddi’s father, and the insider word at the time was that Bouaddi had already made his decision, with the announcement expected after the World Cup. PSG were previously described as the strongest contenders.
Real Madrid entering the picture two nights ago, only to immediately balk at Lille’s asking price, suggests one of two things: either Madrid were testing the waters opportunistically and found the price too steep, or they sensed Bouaddi’s camp had already leaned toward Arsenal and made a token attempt rather than a serious one.
Either way, the outcome is the same. One more major European club has effectively removed itself from the race. That leaves PSG and Arsenal as the realistic contenders, and personal terms reportedly being close with Arsenal is a significant signal that the Saliba template pitch, sell the player on a clear pathway to becoming one of the best in the world at his position, rather than a bench role at a star-stacked PSG, has worked.
Why a 22-year-old at Bournemouth is suddenly one of the most contested midfielders in England

Alex Scott’s situation is a different kind of complicated. Romano has confirmed Arsenal have already held talks with Scott’s entourage and are in discussions with Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old, who joined the Cherries from Bristol City in 2023 and has become one of Andoni Iraola’s most important players, is attracting interest from an extraordinary range of clubs: Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea and PSG have all been linked at various points this month.
The valuations attached to him have been all over the place, anywhere from £40 million to £80 million depending on the source and the date of the report which usually signals a genuine bidding war is forming.
Bournemouth’s stated position is that they want to extend his contract with a significant release clause rather than sell outright, but Scott himself is reportedly exploring his options. The @afcfranchise report that he has “expressed his desire to join Arsenal” is the most direct indication yet that the player has a preference, and it favours the Emirates over Anfield.

The most telling line in the entire report is the final one: Liverpool are also looking at Adam Wharton, Lamine Camara and a player referred to as Burger. That is not the language of a club still fighting hard for Bouaddi and Scott. That is the language of a club building contingencies because they suspect they are about to lose out on both.
For Iraola, who Alex Scott has praised directly saying Liverpool’s press under the Spaniard would be “very aggressive, maybe similar to the early Klopp teams,” there is a layer of irony here.
Scott clearly rates the manager and the project enough to publicly back the idea of joining. But “noise growing” around a move and Arsenal already being installed as favourites by multiple separate reports are two different realities.
If Liverpool are indeed exploring Wharton, Camara and other names in parallel, it suggests their internal expectation is that Scott, like Bouaddi, may end up at the Emirates instead of Anfield.
What this means for Arsenal’s midfield?

If Arsenal land both Bouaddi and Scott this summer, it represents a genuinely significant rebuild of the midfield options behind Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi. Bouaddi offers the long-term, ball-progressing profile in the Saliba mould, a player developed to become one of the best in the world at his position over a multi-year project.
Scott offers something more immediate, he is 22-year-old, England international-calibre central midfielder who is already performing at a high level in the Premier League and could contribute from day one.
Together, they would address both ends of Arsenal’s midfield strategy, present-day depth and squad rotation through Scott, and a generational long-term investment through Bouaddi.
Andrea Berta’s recruitment approach this summer has been defined by exactly this kind of dual-track thinking: spend on proven Premier League quality where needed, and lock in the best teenage talent in Europe before the price escalates beyond reach.
