West Ham Target Arsenal Forward After Another Club Opt Against Signing Him For£15M

West Ham are interested in signing Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson, according to reports.

Writing on The West Ham Way Patreon, trusted insider ExWHUEmployee said that the Hammers are considering a move for the 26-year-old, along with Everton’s Dwight McNeil.

Nelson spent last season on loan at Brentford, and the Bees did have an option to sign him on a permanent basis for £15m.

However, the former England youth international did not do enough during his time at the Gtech Community Stadium to secure himself a transfer away from the Emirates.

Nelson has had injury problems

The forward only made 3 starts for Brentford last season (all in cup competitions), and that was partially due to fitness reasons. He had three separate spells on the sidelines.

Nelson also had issues staying fit during a previous loan spell at Fulham. A serious hamstring injury meant that he missed the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

Unsurprisingly, teams will be cautious about paying over the odds for him this summer, especially as his contract expires next year.

West Ham need to replace Traore (and possibly Summerville)

Irons boss Nuno Espirito Santo is not exactly blessed with wide players at the moment. Adama Traore was not given a contract extension and the Spaniard will be released just six months after joining from Fulham.

Captain Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville are currently the only two senior wingers, and there are serious doubts over the future of the latter.

Manchester United have reportedly joined the likes of Roma, AC Milan, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Everton in pursuing the Netherlands international.

Due to the level of interest, it seems Summerville’s price tag has now increased to £50m, which is a fee that any West Ham fan would gladly sell him for.
