Fears over Alexander Isak’s fitness have been allayed after the Liverpool striker trained on his own at the World Cup.

Isak started Sweden’s opening game at the tournament against Tunisia as he looked to be putting a difficult first season at Anfield behind him. The 26-year-old made just 22 appearances for the Reds following his record-breaking move from Newcastle, with just 13 of those coming from the start.

Liverpool fans will have been left concerned, though, after Isak trained away from the rest of his international teammates on Wednesday, with Sweden preparing for its second group game against the Netherlands on Saturday.

However, reports indicate there are no issues facing the Swedish squad ahead of the weekend, with an insider from the camp dismissing concerns over Isak.

“Everyone is training and there are no problems,” Sweden’s press officer told Fotbollskanalen.

“The plan is for everyone to train hard. Yesterday there was training three days after the match and then there was a small individual programme towards the end.

“Today we are going into the preparations for the next match. Then the plan is for everyone to be involved."

Isak will be aiming to start once again as he looks to continue his fine start to the World Cup. He scored and added two assists as Sweden thrashed Tunisia 5-1 in its opening game.

He and his teammates are unlikely to have it as easy against the Netherlands, with Isak coming up against his fellow Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo.

A win for Sweden would take it through to the knockout stages of the tournament, while the Dutch are looking for their first win after being held to a 2-2 draw in their opening game against Japan.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

Speaking after his side’s opening win, Isak said (via the Sweden Herald): "This effort means a lot. It's a different environment here because we're playing for Sweden, for our homeland.

"It feels incredible. There are many of us who are World Cup debutants, and to be able to debut in this way is a bit surreal, actually."

Liverpool.com says: Fingers crossed, Isak can stay fit throughout the World Cup. Having won that opening game against Tunisia, it looks like a good bet that Sweden will at least make it to the knockout stages now.

The last thing Liverpool will want is him returning with any sort of injury or fitness issues. After last season, it’s vital that he gets a proper pre-season into his legs, and we can hopefully see the player that the club went so big on.
