Rangers star's 'favoured' transfer option revealed with €45m midfielder poised for Man Utd move

The latest transfer news with Manchester United reportedly set to trigger a chain reaction that could see a FIFA World Cup star depart Ibrox.

The summer transfer window has already seen a number of high profile moves take place against the backdrop of the FIFA World Cup finals in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Rangers have secured Derek McInnes as their new head coach following Danny Rohl’s departure to take charge at Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg. The former Sheffield Wednesday gaffer officially departed Ibrox on Wednesday and the Tynecastle boss was quickly brought in as his replacement.

The ex Aberdeen and Kilmarnock manager will now begin shaping his first team squad for the 2026/27 season with yesterday’s fixture release confirming they would kick off away to Dundee United. Meanwhile, one current World Cup player is being linked with a move away from Rangers this summer with a new report claiming he is seen as the ideal replacement for a Manchester United bound midfielder.

Rangers midfielder has ‘made his intention clear’ as Serie A side see midfielder heading to Man Utd

Per a report from TeamTalk, Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin has ‘made clear his intention to leave Ibrox this summer’. The Belgian international is also said to have a ‘favoured option’ as his next destination with a team who are about to see a gap open in their team.

Serie A side Atalanta could step up their interest in the 25-year-old with Brazilian midfielder Ederson set to leave the Bergamo club. the former Corinthians player is expected to sign for Manchester United in a deal that will land the Italian club a reported €45 million.

However, Maurizio Sarri’s side are also said to be just one of a handful of clubs interested in Raskin. The same report names multiple Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa who are all said to have scouted him in the past 18 months.

Raskin is currently away with Belgium at the FIFA World Cup finals and made his debut at the tournament in their 1-1 draw with Egypt earlier this week. He came on as a 55th minute substitute for Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana.

It was the former Standard Liège player’s 14th cap for his country having earned his first senior appearance last year and establishing himself as a regular call-up ever since. He previously represented the Red Devils at every age of youth international football from under 15 all the way up to under 21.

Rangers signed Raskin from Standard Liège in January 2023 for a reported £1.5 million fee with additional add ons. He had been a regular for the Belgian Pro League side having signed from their rivals KAA Gent in 2018 where he had began his senior career.

Raskin has since made almost 150 first team appearances for the Glasgow club including stand out performances in previous seasons. He made his Belgium debut in March 2025, coming on as an 80th minute substitute in a UEFA Nations League relegation play-off tie defeat to Ukraine.

Establishing himself as a regular for his country has significantly increased reported transfer interest around the midfielder during recent windows. The speculation around Atalanta’s wanted to bring him to Italy is just the latest in a series of reports that have come out during the past few transfer windows.
