Liverpool's latest signing Victor Munoz suffers injury setback as tests at FIFA World Cup confirm issue

Liverpool's latest signing Victor Munoz has suffered an injury setback at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Reds have made their first signing of the Andoni Iraola era in the form of the Spanish winger from Osasuna.

Liverpool reportedly triggered the Spaniard's £34.5 million release clause to bring him from Osasuna. The Reds reportedly hijacked Newcastle United's deal for the former Real Madrid youngster.

Munoz is currently with the Spain squad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup but has faced an injury setback. As reported by Tribal Football, he has aggravated a muscle problem that he picked up ahead of the World Cup.

The 22-year-old was an unused substitute in Spain's shock 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in the FIFA World Cup opener. It is now uncertain whether he can even feature for La Roja in the tournament.

A statement on the winger's injury from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) medical team said:

"During the planned and individualized recovery process, an additional muscle injury has occurred that will delay his return to competition. His availability for the upcoming matches will depend on the evolution of his symptoms."

Munoz is a versatile attacker who can play on either flank and also as a number nine. He is blessed with blistering pace and has a knack of taking defenders on with his incredible dribbling ability.

The winger was previously in the youth ranks of both Barcelona and Real Madrid and could prove to be a solid addition to Liverpool. He made 34 appearances in LaLiga for a struggling Osasuna side and contributed with six goals and two assists.

Mikel Arteta urges Arsenal to beat Liverpool for FIFA World Cup star - Reports

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly urged the club to beat Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winger Bradley Barcola's signature. The 23-year-old's future at Parc des Princes has been subject to speculation with a host of clubs reportedly keen on his signature.

Barcola impressed on his FIFA World Cup debut for France, scoring once from the bench in their 3-1 win against Senegal. It has been claimed that the former Lyon winger is considering his future at PSG as he wants regular first-team football.

Luis Enrique has favoured the attacking trio of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele in the big games. Barcola is reportedly frustrated with the situation and would be open to moving to a club where he would be an undisputed starter.

The FIFA World Cup star for France joined PSG in the summer of 2023 from their domestic rivals Lyon in a deal worth a reported €45 million. The Liverpool and Arsenal target has made 152 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants so far, scoring 39 goals and providing 37 assists.
