‘They have to pay!’ - Alan Shearer sends message to Newcastle United owners after £35m transfer …

Liverpool signed Victor Munoz from under Newcastle United's nose earlier this week.

Alan Shearer has urged Newcastle United to stop haggling over transfer fees to avoid another Victor Munoz situation.

Toon chiefs were confident of wrapping up a deal for the Spaniard earlier this week. However, on Wednesday, a bombshell update emerged that Liverpool had triggered his £35million release clause.

For the second consecutive summer, the Reds disrupted Newcastle’s transfer plans. Munoz was touted as Anthony Gordon’s replacement following his move to Barcelona.

Alan Shearer reacts to Victor Munoz blow

Like most Newcastle fans, Shearer was disappointed by the Munoz deal breaking down. He has called upon the St James’ Park hierarchy to act swiftly when negotiating deals.

“It looks as though Liverpool have hijacked the move for Munoz, which would be a blow but Newcastle are trying to do business early, I think,” Shearer told Betfair. “If it is true that Liverpool have beaten them to Munoz, then perhaps Newcastle need to look at doing things a lot earlier and paying what they have to pay.”

Alan Shearer puzzled by Sandro Tonali

Shearer also questioned why Sandro Tonali would consider joining Tottenham Hotspur after their recent struggles. The Italian has been linked with a move to North London in recent days.

“Tottenham just avoided relegation,” Shearer added. “I get the attraction of London but going to Spurs - who have finished so low over the last two years - would be a surprise career move for Tonali in my eyes. But I'm not surprised if it's true that he's made an indication that he wants to leave Newcastle.

“Again, if he doesn't want to be there, you put the price you want and if someone wants to pay it, and it looks as if it'll have to be three figures, then you say thank you very much, get the £100million plus and you move on.

“I know Spurs have a new manager and that may be a pull for him, London obviously. But in terms of the football club, look where they have finished the last two years.”
